This is the third 1 oz coin in the Royal Canadian Mint's O Canada 5-coin series which focuses on iconic Canadian images. This coin focuses on a very simple image, the tranquility experienced under an old maple tree. The image of a large, peaceful meadow brings pastoral and fond images to the minds of most. This coin focuses on one of the joys of childhood, as evinced by the rope swing and children at play. It speaks of simpler times and fun days outside.
The obverse of the coin features the Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II D.G. Regina".
The reverse was designed by Canadian artist Claudio D'Angelo and presents a wide angled view of a precious childhood moment under the shade of a grand old sugar maple. Two boys are spending a summer day outside playing. One young boy swings distractedly in the swing as he looks up at his friend with a baseball cap on the limb above. Viewed from under the tree's shade, through a cluster of sugar maple leaves, the scene portrays a happy scene with remarkable detail like the thick bark, gnarled roots and strong, thick trunk and limbs. The scene is completed with the words "Canada 25 Dollars 2014", the artist's initials and a stylized pair of maple leaves.
This beautiful proof coin is made with 9999 pure silver. The O' Canada series features iconic scenes from Canada and what is more iconic than the Maple? This coin makes a great addition to any collection. With a worldwide mintage of only 8,500 they won't last long.
This coin comes encapsulated in a maroon clamshell case with a serialized certificate of authenticity.
