This is the third coin in the series commemorating ships that have gone missing in Canadian waters, and makes a perfect gift for history buffs.
The S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald was, in it's day, one of the largest ships to ever ply the waters of the great lakes. The Fitzgerald sailed out of Wisconsin on November 9, 1975 with a full cargo of iron ore pellets destined for Detroit, Michigan. A "Witch of November" (harsh winter storm) struck overnight, with the Fitzgerald eventually going down with all 29 crew members on board.
The reverse features a dark and foreboding colourized image of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald being pounded by a November storm. The right side of the field depicts the coast of Lake Superior, near Whitefish Bay in Ontario where the Fitzgerald went down in brilliant proof quality. The rim of the coin is engraved with the name of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald.
Mintage of only 7000 ensures that this coin will be treasured for it's rarity as well as it's beautiful design.
This coin ships in an RCM clam shell inside a full colour graphic box.
