The Wandering Albatross is the 11th coin in the very popular Antarctic Territory series. With the largest wingspan of any living bird, the Wandering Albatross is a sight to see. Because of their large wingspan, the albatross is able to stay in the air for a long period of time with very few flaps of their wings, making it seem that they don't tire. Sailors have observed an albatross following their ships for long periods of times without seeming to land on the water. They were considered birds of good omen and a sign that the ship wouldn't sink. The albatross has been known to live for 50 years and mates for life, breeding only every two years and laying just one egg which the male and female take turns tending to.

The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II Australia 1 Dollar" and the artist's initials.

The reverse features a depiction by Wade Robinson of a Wandering Albatross flying past an iceberg and coloured seascape in the Southern Ocean within a coloured outline of Antarctica. The Albatross glides along effortlessly, as though distance was of no importance at all. The words "2014 Wandering Albatross Australian Antarctic Territory 1 oz 999 Silver" and the traditional "P" Perth Mint Mark.

This coin is made of 999 pure silver. It makes a great addition to any wildlife, Antarctic or silver collection.

This coin comes encased in a grey clamshell case with a numbered certificate and has a very low mintage of only 7,500 worldwide.
