This is the second coin in the new $5 gold O-Canada series which focuses on iconic Canadian images. This coin highlights the Moose, the great wanderer of the north. The Moose has long been regarded as synonymous with the the rigour and harshness of the north, and this coin showcases the Moose thriving in its natural habitat.
The obverse of the coin features the standard Susanna Blunt effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and the words "Elizabeth II D.G. Regina".
The reverse features a design by Canadian artist Trevor Tennant that depicts a profile picture of a moose in its natural habitat. In this image the moose is depicted as seen from behind on the right side as he turns to the viewer. The moose's antlers, which rise from its head just above the eyes and tall mule-like ears that rise out just above the antlers are featured prominently and from a unique angle that displays all of them at once. The moose's wet, bushy fur, large round snout and dangling dewlap are rendered in intricate detail and complete the depiction of this iconic treasure of Canada. In the foreground a pond or lake complete with lush vegetation can be seen and it gives way to a coniferous forested land-line and foothills. The design also features the words "Canada 5 Dollars 2014", the artist's initials and a stylized profile of a moose's head.
This proof finished gold coin is made from 9999 pure gold. This coin is limited to a worldwide mintage of only 4,000 and makes a great gift for anyone who enjoys wildlife or collects beautifully engraved gold coins.
This coin comes encapsulated and encased in a maroon clamshell case with a serialized certificate of authenticity.
